Argentina extended their unbeaten run to 34 matches with a comfortable 3-0 victory against

Honduras in Miami with Messi scoring two goals.

La Albiceleste are still yet to lose a match – competitive or otherwise – in the 2020s, with their

last defeat coming against rivals Brazil in July 2019.

Their formidable record continued on Friday night with a sweet victory against a toothless

Honduras side at Hard Rock Stadium.

Papu Gomez came close to breaking the deadlock for Argentina after just four minutes, but his solo effort whistled just over the crossbar.

They weren’t to be denied much longer, however, as Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring soon after. Lionel Messi’s through ball found the path of Gomez, who squared for the Inter Milan striker to score a simple tap-in.

Argentina were handed a penalty in first-half stoppage time when Raul Santos brought down Giovani Lo Celso, and L.Messi converted from the spot to double the advantage.

Messi has started the new season back at his best for Paris Saint-Germain and continued that form with a superb second goal with just over 20 minutes remaining. The 35-year-old managed to lob goalkeeper Luis Lopez from all of 25 yards to round off the scoring in Florida.

Argentina will take their unbeaten streak to 35 games if they avoid defeat against Jamaica on Tuesday night. They open their World Cup campaign on 22 November against Saudi Arabia.
